Serengeti Animals
While in the Serengeti we stayed at the Alex Walker Serian Camp. It was easily one of the best choices we made. We shared meals with two other families there who were wonderful and we all assisted taking pictures of each other. The level of hospitality was off the charts! The host Isaiah was on point with meeting all of our needs and comforts.
The food was prepared in a kitchen tent and they worked some magic, as the meals were terrific. We slept in a tent that hardly made it feel like camping, but when it was dark and we heard all the animals at night we knew we were definitely camping in the Serengeti! It’s really fun to listen to, but after a night or two it’s time to sleep so bring some ear plugs.
We met Alex Walker as well who shared a meal with us. He was very welcoming and we loved hearing his stories. His father had safari camps when he was a child and he’d taken over the business opening additional camps throughout the area as well as being an accomplished wildlife safari photographer.
We went on two game drives each day starting before sunrise to catch the native animals waking up with the sun. They had prepared breakfast with them in the jeep so we could stop at a safe place to eat a meal after they set it up for us! Continuing with the game drive we saw so much and would head back to camp for lunch and a rest around 1pm. We’d share what we saw with the other families there and learned so much! We’d head back out around 4pm for a game drive lasting through the sunset and made it back to camp just before dark around 7pm. When arriving back we were met by our hosts and the staff who would present snacks and drinks by the fire each night while dinner was prepared. After dinner it was an easy chore to fall asleep after a full day’s adventure! Our guide Benedict was so amazing. He had such a love of nature and wildlife and was happy to share his knowledge with us. He was amazing at helping me get lined up for the photos and it was as if he was hand picked for us! We also had a Masai Warrior (warrior is an adult in their culture) as a spotter who was fantastic. Unfortunately I do not know how to spell his name, but he was amazing. He saw everything, including my cell phone when it fell out of the jeep and we had to backtrack to find it!
